Varun Bhatia, M.D. spoke with PracticeLink about his job search.

What surprised you about your first post-residency job search?
It was pretty easy to apply through PracticeLink, and I was approached for several opportunities.
What’s your advice for residents who are beginning their job search?
Focus on a few key factors. Location is number one, quality of life is number two, and salary/benefits are number three.
How did you find your job?
I applied to several jobs on PracticeLink. I got a feel for the general salary and then focused on different areas that interested me.
Anything particularly unique about your job search?
I am board certified in family medicine but had no interest in primary care. I wanted to pursue hospital medicine and urgent care. I was hired to work at the hospital I did residency at and become medical director of several urgent cares. On a part-time basis, I also performed home visits to keep my primary care skills alive.
How did PracticeLink help?
It opened several different opportunities to me and allowed me to have a variety of different positions.
Any other advice?
You know what will work for you. I urge people to do their due diligence and really make an informed decision.
